Benefits of Having a Training Buddy in Martial Arts
05,02,2018-- 9:37 AM
The temperature is rising, leaves are turning green and flowers are blooming - spring is finally here! What a perfect time to invite a friend or family member to join you in your martial arts classes.
Having a training buddy can be an essential ingredient for success in your training. Training partners are good for a lot of different reasons. Holding pads in Muay Thai Class, drilling in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or even sparring.
Here at MMAFA / ATT Ottawa Canada, we see a lot of our students bring training buddies with them. Be it a classmate, sibling, neighbour or even a coworker. There are actually a lot of benefits to working out with a partner, here are some benefits we’ve seen in having a training buddy.
Accountability
Working out with a partner keeps you accountable. If you know you’re meeting at the gym, you’re less likely to flake out. When it comes to getting in shape, or staying in top shape, accountability is important.
More Fun
Sometimes, people get bored with their workouts, and end up falling off. Hitting pads, rolling, drilling or even sparring can be more fun with a training buddy, and keep you on track.
Work harder
It’s human nature, we work harder when we’re being watched. How many times have you done an extra push-up, sit-up or even another round of pads or rolling in BJJ because your partner wanted to or was egging you on. In a group setting like a Muay Thai or BJJ Class, we work harder and longer than we might otherwise.
Be Safer
Another benefit or working out with a partner is the opportunity to help each other maintain proper technique while you are training. If you see your partner dropping their hands in Muay Thai or not applying the proper leverage in BJJ, you are more open to helping and correct each other when you know you are aiming for the same goals.
Bring a Friend the next time you are in class, have them sign up online here and we will see you on the mat.
